One of our favourite side dishes to eat along with Pongal or Idli is Gothsu/Gotsu/Gosthu. The classic Gothsu is made using brinjal. I have shared my Kathirikkai/Brinjal Gothsu ( https://masterchefmom.blogspot.com/2016/01/tambrahm-style-kathirikkai-gotsugostu.html) recipe earlier with all of you. Today, I am sharing an another yummy gothsu recipe made using tomatoes. So simple to make, but pairs so beautifully with Pongal or Khichdi. Do try it out and share your feedback with me. Tomato Gothsu /Gotsu : Preparation time : 5 minutes Cooking time : 25 minutes Serves: 4 1 cup =250 ml cup Ingredients : 4 large tomatoes ( finely chopped ) marble size tamarind ( soak in 1/2 cup warm water) 1 teaspoon jaggery powder ( optional) salt to taste To temper : 2-3 teaspoons oil ( I used sesame oil) 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds 1/4 teaspoon channa dal 1/4 teaspoon urad dal 4-5 dry red chillies (adjust) 1 sprig curry leaves salt to taste Method : 1. Heat a heavy bottom vessel with oil 2. Temper with all the ingredients given for the same. 3. Add the tomatoes, salt and quarter cup of water. 4. Once the tomatoes start to break down, add the tamarind water, jaggery and allow the mixture to cook for another 12-15 minutes over low flame. Chef tip: Adjust water quantity while adding the tamarind water. Add a teaspoon of rice flour mixed with water and add it to the goats for it to thicken faster. This is an optional step. Your tomato gothsu is now ready. Serve it along with your favourite tiffin.
