| Video Discription | #pikeypeak #solukhumbu #nepaltrek In February of 2022, we embarked on a 7-day trek to the beautiful (and very snowy) Pikey Peak at 4080 meters! We started our trek in Shivalaya (near Jiri) in Dolakha, headed southeast through Ramechaap and on into Solu Khumbu where we climbed up to Pikey Peak, and then continued trekking northeast on to Lukla. This is a great, moderate trek in Nepal that graces you with stunning views of the Himalayas as you traverse up to rhododendron and pine covered ridges and down through river valleys, passing through quaint villages and countless buddhist stupas and Tibetan mani walls along the way. It's a fun and satisfying journey in which you experience both the diverse nature of Nepal and the agricultural livelihoods of the local communities living in route (as well as lots of goats, yaks and cows!). Many thanks to all the lovely folks we met and who hosted us through this week :) Here is the itinerary for this Pikey Peak Trek: 0:00 Intro 00:25 Day 1: Shivalaya to Bhandar 5:51 Day 2: Bhandar to Goli 8:24 Day 3: Goli to Pikey Peak Base Camp 12:09 Day 4: Base Camp to Pikey Peak to Junbesi 16:56 Day 5: Junbesi to Nunthala 21:49 Day 6: Nunthala to Bupsa 25:30 Day 7: Bupsa to Lukla 29:08 Day 8: Fly Lukla to KTM This Pikey Peak trek hovers just around 2500 meters, aside from the climb to 4080 meters at Pikey Peak, but as with any time you travel West-East / East-West in Nepal, there is a lot of descending and ascending as you cross the many river valleys. Being the end of winter, it was a little bit chillier, but not bad at all. And luckily, we were greeted everyday with clear blue skies and sun, and caught some spring feels with red bursts of rhododendron blooming in some places. Without fail, though, the clouds did arrive around noon, and several days we ended in a bit of a snow flurry. We also certainly encountered our fair share of snow on the trail at the higher altitudes, and we were actually the first group of the season to cross Pikey Peak. Traversing the cliff side while walking through , was exhilarating and at times, and, to be honest, terrifying. We couldn't’ have done it without our guide, Babu Dhai (Ang Sherpa), who is an experienced mountaineer, and helped us find our way over Pikey Peak when there were feet of snow and no site of the path. Also, VERY grateful to have had crampons! if you do this trek during this season, is bring crampons and definitely have a guide with you!
