| Video Discription | Robert Browning Poetry Reading by Shanid. ROBERT BROWNING (1812-1889)* Born Robert Browning in Camberwell, London, England. Browning's family were wealthy; his father worked for the Bank of England. Both of his parents were decendants of slave, and plantation, owners in the Caribbean. Unable to settle at private schools, Browning was educated by a tutor at home before attending University College London (1828) (dropped out). After university, Browning devoted himself to poetry; his father's financial support meant that he did not need to work. His father, and aunt, published Browning's early poetry (1833). Browning's reputation is built on the poems that he produced between 1841-46. Married Elizabeth Barratt in 1846. Died in 1889 in Venice, Italy. He is buried in Westminster Abbey.
