| Video Discription | Objectives: After completion of this video session it is expected that the students will be able to understand and demonstrate the: • Parts of the large intestine. • Distinguishing anatomical features of the large intestine: haustrations, teniae coli, and omental appendices. • Bands of teniae coli: free, omental, mesocolic • The cecum: position and extent • Ileocecal orifice and frenula. • The appendix: variation in position; relation to psoas major muscle. • Peritoneal folds at the terminal ileum: superior ileocecal fold, inferior ileocecal fold and mesoappendix. • The ascending colon: extent, hepatic flexure, relation to the peritoneum, right paracolic gutter • Transverse colon: extent, splenic flexure, relation to the peritoneum, relations of the root of the transverse mesocolon. • Descending colon: extent, relation to the peritoneum, left paracolic gutter. • Sigmoid colon: extent and relation to the peritoneum. • Blood supply of the large intestine: Branches of the superior mesenteric artery: ileocolic, right colic, middle colic.
