| Video Discription | “Before this summer, I never really had any research (experience), but currently I am in an REU program here in La Selva, Costa Rica (...) There are also so many amazing people around me, doing their own project, and each project focused on a bigger picture. The same goes with my project that I’m working on with my mentor. The idea came from the increasing amount of pesticide use in agriculture and the effects that it could have in aquatic ecosystems. Our objective is to find results that will lead to more conscientious agriculture practices. This is what got me interested in research. I wanted to do something that is related to helping people and the natural environment.” The LSAMP REU program in Costa Rica with the Organization for Tropical Studies is a fully funded opportunity for students from underrepresented minorities in STEM to conduct research in the tropics, at either La Selva Research Station or Las Cruces Research Station.
