| Video Discription | The first contingent of 55 NSW Police Force officers left for Brisbane yesterday at 11.00am. They will be sworn in as Queensland Special Constables prior to commencing active duty and will have full police powers while on duty in Queensland. The NSW Police Operation is known as Operation Wescoe, with officers joining an interstate taskforce with Victorian and South Australian police, as part of a broader Operation Safeguard announced by the Queensland Police Force. The focus will be the protection of lives and property, with the selected officers having a minimum two years experience, being fully fit, and possessing a high level of operational competence and teamwork skills. The group is under the command of Superintendent Kyle Stewart from the Wollongong Local Area Command while planning assistance currently being provided by the Major Events and Incidents Group (MEIG). |
