Prime Minister Narendra Modi's inauguration of the Operational Control Centre (OCC) in Ahmedabad signifies a major step forward in the modernization of the Indian Railways. This center, acting as the hub for the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), links various states from Uttar Pradesh to Maharashtra, spanning 1506 kilometers.
Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, expressed confidence in the swift progress of the rail network under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing that Indian Railways will continue to move ahead at the pace of modernity.
In an exclusive interview with NewsStation, Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the technological marvel of the OCC, which incorporates sustainable practices and features a video wall approximately 70 meters long, two war rooms, and a Disaster Management Room. The OCC's video wall provides real-time tracking of trains, station and yard diagrams, and automatic block sections, offering controllers a comprehensive overview of the entire system.
The OCC enables mission-critical communications, manages train operations, and improves efficiency through informed decision-making. Engineers and technicians at the center have control over the entire WDFC rail system, including signaling, power supply, and track safety.
The OCC boasts modern design interiors, ergonomic user interfaces, and best-in-class acoustics, equipped with advanced technologies and applications such as the Train Management System (TMS), Global System for Mobile Radio Communication for Railways (GSM-R), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), and more.
Covering an area of 3.07 acres, the OCC complex embraces green building concepts with solar power, rainwater harvesting, and centralized monitoring through a Building Management System (BMS). It facilitates mission-critical communications, efficient train operations, and informed decision-making.
Notably, the entire rail operation of the WDFC is managed by controllers specializing in various aspects of the rail system, integral to the OCC/WDFC. The OCC is connected to all stations of the WDFC and Divisional HQ of IR on a dual OFC system, ensuring seamless data transfer. Predictive Maintenance System enabled by Artificial Intelligence is also on the agenda, further enhancing operational efficiency and reliability.
