During the Middle Ages, this strategic position plunged it into the center of wars between House of Savoy and the lords of Faucigny allied to the county of Geneva. It was Count Amédée V, at the beginning of the 14th century, who made it the fortified town that can be admired today. After the Second World War, the inhabitants, and especially the women, gradually decorated their houses with flowers. In 1959, Yvoire was awarded for the first time in the Flowered Towns and Villages Competition and won 1st place.
