The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) on Thursday declared the results of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSSLC) 2022 for Science, Commerce and Vocational Streams.
A total of 2,981 candidates appeared for the Science stream, while a total of 2,135 candidates cleared the exams with a pass percentage of 71.62 %.
In the Commerce stream, a total of 2,047 candidates appeared for the exams and 1,712 candidates cleared the examination with a pass percentage of 83.63 %.
The first and second positions were bagged by Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong. Gyanesh Roy Bhowmik secured the first position in the HSSLC (Science) exams 2022 with a total of 469 marks, followed by Rishi Sarkar securing the second position with a total of 460 marks.
The third position was secured by Chetna Bose from Don Bosco College (Hr. Sec Section) Tura with 459 total marks.
RK Mission Higher Secondary School, Cherrapunjee, bagged the fourth and sixth position in the Science Stream, while St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School bagged the fifth, seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
While in the commerce stream, St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong once again bagged the first position in the HSSLC exams 2022, students from St.Anthony’s Higher Secondary School bagged the fourth, fifth, eight and tenth positions, respectively.
Riya Kharpran from St.Anthony’s Higher Secondary School secured a total of 464 marks to take the first position in the Commerce stream. Emerene Kharpran of St Edmund’s Higher Secondary School, Shillong, and Keshav Agarwala of Don Bosco College (Hr. Sec Section), Tura secured the second position with a total of 462 marks. The third position was secured by Chirag Deb of Laban Bengalee Boy’s Hr. Sec School, Shillong with 456 marks.
Meanwhile, a total of 8 candidates appeared for the vocational stream and all of them cleared the exams.
According to the MBoSE statement, the pass percentage in the Commerce stream has increased compared to results of the last five years (2018-2022).
This year the pass percentage is 83.63, whereas in 2021 it was 80.93. The total number of candidates that appeared for the exams in 2021 was 2307. In 2020, a total of 2,179 candidates appeared for the exams and the pass percentage was 77.28 %. In 2019, a total of 2,254 appeared and pass percentage was 79.24 %. In 2018, a total of 2,297 appeared for the exams and pass percentage was 79.84%.
However, there has been a slight drop in the pass percentage in the Science stream this year as compared to last year. This year, the pass percentage is 71.62 whereas in 2021 it was 75.85 and the total number of candidates that appeared for the exams in 2021 was 3,677.
In 2020, a total of 3,566 candidates appeared for the exams and the pass percentage was at 72.24. In 2019, a total of 3,706 appeared and pass percentage was 71.07. In 2018 a total of 3663 appeared for the exams and pass percentage was 74.58
The Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2022 (Science, Commerce and Vocational) was held from March 14 to April 22.
MBoSE Executive Chairman MHK Marak, in its statement, extended its gratitude to the Education Department, Government of Meghalaya for taking interest and rendering constant support to the Board.
Marak in his statement said, “Battered by the second wave of COVID-19 Pandemic for a major portion of the academic session, yet students took their exams and the entire process of examination was completed smoothly. This shows the resilience of our students, teachers and the entire examination machinery. I congratulate all the successful candidates. We wish and hope that our students will fare well in their future endeavors. For those who could not make it through this examination, I wish to remind them that the only real failure is to give up. So, gear up for the next examination from now on with full determination and hard work.”
