As per reports, the incident took place in the Moirangpurel area along the border of the Kangpokpi and Imphal East during a domination exercise carried out by the security forces. Women in large numbers had blocked the road in protest against the presence of the Assam Rifles in the area barring the armed forces from moving forward. Another confrontation took place in the area where security forces were obstructed while on duty. The exchange of words took place between the Indian army and cadres allegedly belonging to the Manipur People's Army, the armed wing of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF). Moirangpurel witnessed fresh incidents of violence after intermittent firing was reported on Wednesday.
