But as we actually perform this surgical technique, the first thing we do is inject a substance at two different points in the cervix as you see here. ✅ After a few minutes these substances will migrate to the sentinel lymph node, while in the meantime through a laparoscopic or robotic surgery we access to the anatomical spaces in the pelvis where the lymph nodes are usually found. Obviously, the surgical movements must be very careful to avoid damage at the blood vessels of the pelvis, the ureter, or the bowel. ✅ Then with the use of a special light, we identify the sentinel lymph node as you can see here. The use of this technique allows the removal of only the sentinel lymph node which can be one or a maximum of three instead of all the lymph nodes in the pelvic region which significantly reduces tissue trauma and the possibility of complications both during and after the surgical procedure itself. ✅ What we do is a guided dissection of the sentinel lymph node excision. I insist without the surrounding tissue and as you can see here at the end of the excision, we verify this lymph node with the same light. To make sure, the pathologist analyzes it in detail and confirms whether it has metastatic cells or not. ✅ We currently do sentinel lymph node detection, which is a technique validated and recommended by the main scientific societies worldwide.
