QUESTIONS When we say ‘local hotspots’ what does that mean? Restaurants Nightlife places Entertainment like cinemas, theaters, and museums Outdoor places, like parks and monuments When do you talk about local hotspots? Friends and strangers- anyone! At home or while traveling- anywhere! VOCABULARY Swing by- (phrasal verb) go to, maybe for a short time Grab a bite- (idiom) eat Catch sight of- (idiom) see for a short time; glimpse ROLEPLAY: Aubrey is visiting Portland for a conference, and meets Jessica. Jessica is also attending the conference and lives in Portland. J: Hey! That was a short session. I thought it was supposed to be 2 hours. A: I know, right? Hey, are you from here by any chance? I’m starving but I don’t know where to go. J: Yes, I do live here. What are you in the mood for? There’re actually tons of great spots around here to eat at. A: Oh, I don’t know. Just a sandwich I guess. J: Well, that’s easy. Bunk’s Sandwiches is just up on 11th. I work near here, too, and I often grab a bite there when I need something quick. A: Perfect! J: Oh, and, since you’re kind of on vacation, you should definitely swing by Fifty Licks, a local ice cream place. It’s near here, too. A: Ya know what? I think I might actually do that. Would you want to come with me? J: Yes! I would love that. Let’s do it. We might even catch sight of the unipiper. A: The what? J: A local street performer that rides a unicycle and plays bagpipes.
