This comes after Eskom implemented Stage 4 rolling blackouts until further notice. After announcing the implementation of Stage 3 at ten last night, the power utility increased the rolling blackouts again at 2 this morning due to two additional generating units being taken out of service for repairs. Eskom says the original escalation was "due to the need to replenish the pumped storage dams, which are required to meet the morning and evening peak loads, and a generating unit that was taken offline for repairs".
