| Video Discription | This Lipoma Mass Removal was located on the right forearm of a 30 year old male . The lipoma was causing him pain, not cosmetically appealing , and leaving the patient insecure . Procedure Background Welcome to Gartner Plastic Surgery and Laser Center . This patient is having a lipoma removal surgery under local anesthesia (anesthesia that affects a restricted area of the body) . Dr. Gartner which is a plastic surgeon is removing the lipoma. The patient is a 30 year old male with a lipoma on his forearm . He was experiencing a decent amount of pressure , and slight pain which is why he wanted to get the lipoma removed. The lipoma grew on his forearm for about 2 years. Dr. Gartner uses a scalpel to make the first incision , then releases and frees up the fatty mass with surgical scissors . Once the incision was made and the area freed up , pressure was applied like popping a pimple and the fatty mass began to pop out . Strands in the skin are attached to the lipoma that lead to more freeing to release every piece of the fatty mass in the skin . The excision was 4 cm . The fatty mass is sent to pathology Patient came in a week later for his post-op appointment . Everything looked perfect the incision was healing properly and the doctor removed all bandages. After his one week check up , he will be back in the office in a month for another follow up appointment to insure the incision is healing properly . This occurs when fat cells starts to grow which are benign tumor (non cancerous growth) . They grow over a long period of time , months or even years. A Lipoma is harmless. The lipoma removal leaves a very thin scar once healed.
