The growth and advancement of Korea as a global player across multiple technologyarenas is well known. Korea clearly has leading edge technology. Yet, most of thedevelopment has been due to the tight interaction between government and chaebols,large owner dominated multisector corporations. In recent years there has been a strongdrive to create a vibrant technology startup ecosystem in Korea, following similar effortsin for example US/Silicon Valley, UK/London, Germany/Berlin, Israel/Tel Aviv andNordics/Stockholm, Helsinki. A new generation of startup entrepreneurs has emerged,but to many the overall landscape is still unknown. What is the technological capabilitiesof Korean startups? In this talk we take a look at where Korean startups are today versustheir global peers, and what the Korean startup ecosystem might offer globalcorporations in terms of advanced technology and new solutions. We will also discusspracticalities of M&A and post-merger integration in the context of “bolt-on” technologyacquisitions of Korean startups.

Dr. Per Stenius, CEO and Client Director at Reddal Inc., has a diversebackground in science, top management strategy consulting, venturecapital, startups, and operative management. In his role at Reddal heserves our corporate and private equity clients globally. Dr. Stenius also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Seoul School of IntegratedSciences & Technologies, and as a lecturer at Yonsei University inSouth Korea. He has published well over 20 articles in leading journalsfor business and science. He holds an MSc EE from Aalto University,and a PhD EE and an MA Corporate Finance from University ofCalifornia, Santa Barbara, and his previous career includes positions atMcKinsey & Company, Accenture, and Stratos Ventures.
