It's name derived from the words "speedy" and "tonic". It is marketed as the Kia KX1 in China. The Chinese-made KX1 is exported to Philippines under the Stonic nameplate since October 2020. Over the years, Kia has built a reputation for producing decent SUV's and crossovers, but the Kia Stonic is something different. While sister models like the Sorento and Sportage deliver practicality. As a result, the Stonic features a sportier look, It's based on the Kia Rio Hatchback, so all models are front-wheel drive, but the raised ride height means there's a higher driving position. Engines, gearboxes and even the interior are also carried over from the Rio. - Aside from launching the all-new Sorento, Kia Philippines also introduced the Stonic Style Edition. Slotting between the top-of-the-line EX and the mid-range LX A/T, the limited-run Stonic Style Edition features cosmetic upgrades that give the crossover a flashier look. Unlike the standard model, the Style Edition comes with new front and rear bumper extensions and a pair of side skirts with silver accents. Like the all-new Sorento, the Stonic Style Edition also carries the brand's new logo. As an added touch, this particular model also features blacked-out alloy wheels and a 'Style Edition' badge on the tailgate.
