It is believed that a visit to all these three shiva temples – before 'ucha puja', which signifies the puja before midday, is very auspicious and holds the promise of fulfilling one's deepest wishes. According to legend, The Shivling in these three temples was installed by a demon named 'Khara'. This demon worshiped Shiva at a place called Chidambaram and obtained from him three Shivalingams. He travelled holding one Shivalingam in each hand and one in his mouth. The demon’s mouth is said to be the one at Kaduthuruthy Mahadeva Temple. The remaining two Shivlings were installed at the Ettumanoor Mahadeva Temple and Vaikkom Mahadeva Temple. |
