| Video Discription | Kalemegdan Park is split into two areas the Great Park and Little Park. The name Kalemegdan is derived from the Turkish words 'Kale' which means castle and 'meydan' which means square …Castle Square. The area was once used by the Ottoman army as the training ground and gathering point of the army before the battles. The field was neglected for centuries. When the Ottomans fully withdrew from Serbia in 1867, the Turkish pasha handed over the keys to the city to the ruling Prince Mihajlo Obrenović. The first works on arranging the field started in 1869. Though not the oldest park in Belgrade, it is the one which is being continually groomed and attended to the longest.
