| Video Discription | Interview with Dr. José Sarukhan, Researcher Emeritus, National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) (winner of Tyler Prize 2017) during the Second Edition of the World Sustainable Development Forum held in Durango, Mexico from March 5-7, 2020. Dr. José Sarukhan talks about ambition and actions related to climate change and sustainable development. José Sarukhán graduated in biology from the National Autonomous University of México (UNAM) in 1964. He obtained a Master's degree in Agricultural Botany at the Postgraduate College (Chapingo) in 1968 and a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Wales, G. B in 1972. His main areas of academic interest have been Tropical Ecology, Plant Population Ecology, Systems Ecology of both temperate and tropical ecosystems and Darwinian Biology. Sarukhán was instrumental in proposing the creation of the National Commission on Biodiversity of México in 1991 and in 1992, the President of México appointed him as National Coordinator of CONABIO, a responsibility that he holds until now. The Second Edition of the World Sustainable Development Forum (WSDF) was hosted by the State Government of Durango, Mexico from tomorrow in collaboration with World Sustainable Development Forum and Protect Our Planet Movement in Durango, México on March 5-7, 2020. The three-day event in Durango was charged with back-to-back panel discussions under the overarching theme of “Action to Limit Warming to 1.5°C”. Revolving around this standpoint, WSDF 2020 featured sessions like “Low Carbon Options for Business and Industry”, “Energiewende and Innovation”, “Visionary Leadership in Countries and at Sub-national Levels”, “The Perils of Sea Level Rise”, and “Values and Lifestyles for Sustainability”. WSDF 2020 weaved policy linkages in a special session named “Youthquake” wherein the transformative role of youth was highlighted with extensive interaction between youth, political leaders, academics and researchers, and other stakeholders.
