| Video Discription | @learnchemi Iodoform test is used to test for the presence of either methyl ketone group CH3CO or secondary alcohol CH3CHOH. In the iodoform test, sodium hydroxide is added to iodine pellets after the dissolve of iodine in sodium hydroxide the aldehyde or ketone is added. The mixture is then heated for a few minutes until the yellow color solution starts to appear, then the tube is immersed in an ice bath where a yellow precipitate of iodoform is formed. The formed iodoform has a distinct antiseptic odor. |
