Two of the most popular types of pongal are Chakara Pongal and Ven Pongal. Chakara means sugar and ven means white in tamil. Thus chakara pongal is a sweet dish and is quite often made with new rice during the harvest festival (which is also called Pongal). Ven Pongal on the other hand is mildly spicy and is often eaten for breakfast in the southern states of india. Pongal can be made in the Instant Pot quickly and easily.
