A versatile performer, he sings songs in the Sufi tradition, Sindhi tradition and devotional songs especially of saints Meera, Kabir, Surdas and Ravidas. Anwar is a renowned performer in this tradition and has performed at innumerable festivals in India and abroad. Though the Manganiar and Langhas communities are Muslim, many Manganiar songs are in praise of Hindu deities and celebrate Hindu festivals such as Diwali and Holi. The Manganiar performers traditionally invoke the Hindu God Krishna and seek his blessing before beginning their recital.
