COPS: MAN CHARGED W/ DRUNK DRIVING AFTER FIERY CRASH [HN VIDEO] [NEW DETAILS]
May 14, 2024 | Robert Bastille
HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [UPDATED DETAILS] – Upon arrival, Barnstable Police Patrolman Peter Ginnetty observed a destroyed wooden fence, a telephone pole “broken and dangling in the roadway,” shrubs that once grew in front of 13 Smith Street were now “mangled and ripped apart,” and live power lines were drooping dangerously close to the roadway, according to a report filed in Barnstable District Court. There was a debris field made up of pieces from some type of mid-sized SUV scattered for at least 100 feet. And as you will see in the following HN Video, a fully engulfed SUV was burning in the middle of Smith Street, down range, just beyond the debris field.
Thankfully all four occupants managed to self-extricate from the wreckage prior to it bursting into flames. All four were immediately treated by Hyannis Rescue and transported to Cape Cod Hospital as Hyannis Firefighters knocked down the flames. The vehicle they had all just been traveling in was reduced a charred heap of disfigured metal. According to sources, all four are expected to survive…
Patrolman Ginnetty reportedly approached Dylan Catozzi who identified himself as the operator. Catozzi was compliant and agreed he would “cooperate in any way.” Patrolman Ginnetty also reportedly observed Catozzi’s eyes to be “extremely bloodshot” and he could detect “a strong odor of alcoholic beverages omitting from his person.”
The investigating into the cause of the crash continued at Cape Cod Hospital where Catozzi was being evaluated for possible injuries. Patrolman Ginnetty also reportedly spoke with the other occupants of the vehicle while they too were being evaluated at CCH. All had reportedly dined together at a popular downtown restaurant earlier in the evening. “After dinner they went to multiple bars” throughout the remainder of evening leading up to the crash.
At the hospital, Catozzi was reportedly read his rights before he consented to having his blood drawn for testing. All evidence was stored in a special refrigerator and will be submitted to a state lab to determine the suspect’s alleged level of intoxication.
As a result of the investigation at the crash scene and later at CCH, Dylan Catozzi, 22, of Centerville was arrested and charged with OUI-Liquor and Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
* The defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS – [HN VIDEO NOTES] – At approximately 1:16 a.m. this morning, Barnstable Police and Hyannis Firefighters rushed to a fiery crash scene on Smith Street near Circle Drive (on the way toward Craigville Beach). Some type of SUV appears to have left the roadway and snapped a utility pole… bringing down live wires dangerously close to the ground. The four occupants managed to escape just prior to the vehicle bursting into flames. All four were transported to Cape Cod Hospital. One of the patients needed to be removed from the hazardous scene on a stretcher. The other three occupants were able to carefully walk out on their own.
As you will see in the following HN footage, Hyannis Firefighters arrived and immediately began battling the flames… as EMTS located and evaluated the victims.
The Barnstable Police Department is actively investigating the cause of the violent crash. HN will provide updates as they become available. [DEVELOPING]
