| Video Discription | Australian officials long had their suspicions about who killed Irene Jones. ------- LANSVALE, New South Wales, Australia – Friday, November 2, 2001. It’s 7 pm at the Hungry Jack’s Burgers in Wentworthville, a suburb of Sydney, Australia. Inside the restaurant, a celebration is occurring. It’s Irene Jones’s 56th birthday. Her daughter, 27-year-old Megan Jones, is accompanying her on the get-together. The two are chatting about the good times, but Irene has been preoccupied with some things on her mind. Up to this point, Irene has been scared. She had been scared about her safety. At 7:18 pm, the check is paid. They leave the restaurant and go straight home, a property on Huntingdale Avenue in Lansvale. Irene tells her mother that she is going to the petrol station to fill up the near-empty car. Several minutes later, Megan arrives home and heads for the shower. She puts on some clothes and does her skin care routine. But when she opens the door to exit the bathroom, an intruder is standing in front of it. Megan manages to escape to a neighbour’s house, where she makes a triple-0 call. Her mother, however, is not as fortunate. Irene Jones is strangled and stabbed to death. She is declared dead at 9:30 pm, just two hours after she and Megan left the restaurant. Megan described the intruder as a white male with blonde hair. After many interviews and witness statements, the police would not make any arrests. The killer was still at large – for 18 years. That’s until 2019, when an arrest would be made. A conviction would follow three years later.
