Security is something that many of us take very seriously, but most people’s idea of security involves locking their doors, setting strong passwords, and monitoring their property with security cameras. Number 10. Fort Knox
Also widely known as ‘The Vault’, Fort Knox is the US bullion depository. It supposedly holds a huge portion of the United States’ gold reserves, among many other assets, although the true value of its contents is unknown. It’s also the site of the Army Human Resources Center of Excellence, which also includes the Army Human Resources Command. The United States Bullion Depository is protected by the United States Mint Police, which is a group that’s well known for providing exceptional and nigh unbreachable security. While the US Bullion Depository is technically separate from Fort Knox itself, breaking into Fort Knox in any capacity will also alert these special police, increasing the number of guards you have to get through in order to gain unauthorized access. The property is surrounded by a high steel fence and the actual building is made with steel-reinforced concrete. The grounds are supposedly littered with landmines and any attacking force can expect to have to get past plenty of electric fences as they progress towards Fort Knox. Guard boxes are positioned at each corner of the building, with smaller sentry posts dotted around the building’s perimeter. On top of its dedicated security force, Fort Knox also houses 40,000 soldiers and their families onsite, which makes it even more tricky to storm the actual Fort Knox building. Even if you do get to the vault, the door weighs more than 20 tons and is made out of steel and concrete. No one person can access the vault on their own, with a team of high-level personnel only knowing one small step with regard to the process of opening the door and effectively bypassing security measures. The extent of Fort Knox’s security measures is unknown and is a closely-guarded secret, making it pretty much impossible for anyone to successfully break into Fort Knox.
Number 9. Area 51
If you didn’t get a refresher on just how difficult it would be to storm Area 51, we’re going to break it down for you. The airspace above the facility is restricted to both commercial and military flights not originating from the base itself. Its borders are well protected, with a dedicated security force that’s authorized to use deadly force at all times if they think it’s necessary to repel intruders. They can spot you long before you even get close to the building, thanks to a massive network of motion sensors and hidden cameras. Drones also patrol the area, giving a birds eye view of the surrounding landscape, constantly spotting trespassers. There are also plenty of soldiers onsite on top of the main security forces, so if anyone attacked the facility they’d have to deal with a ridiculous number of highly trained soldiers who are more than ready to shoot first and ask questions later.
Number 8. Svalbard Global
Seed Vault One of the best security features that the Svalbard Global Seed Vault has going for it is it’s extremely remote location. Getting there is a real pain to be sure. Access to the surrounding area is restricted. Internal security measures aren’t well known, but it’s able to withstand both nuclear bomb explosions and actual meteor impacts, which is pretty impressive to say the least. The property is guarded by a dedicated security force and they don’t take kindly to people just showing up unannounced. Sneaking in is tricky, given the building’s location, and an all-out assault would be ill-advised, as the building’s fortifications are basically impossible to breach.
Number 7. The White House
Okay, so the white house has seen some embarrassing security breaches, but that doesn’t make it any less secure. It’s security has also been beefed up in a big way since 9/11, including a massive security fence and multiple guard boxes lining the perimeter. The fence was expanded by one block in recent years in order to prevent any damage from a car bomb. There are also plans to increase the height of the fence and add sensors to it...
