Harry James did not like to play tunes that had been identified with other trumpet players. he respected other players tremendously. In addition he did not want to be compared to his contemporaries. That's why Harry never commercially recorded I Can't Get Started, Memories of You, and Stardust. Harry loved Stardust, and always had an arrangement in the book. Here in this 1956 radio recording, Harry plays Stardust with his octet. No one had as warm and emotional a ballad style as Harry James. |
