Among the different places which we have visited in London, we have been to the "Great Scotland Yard" which is just a street in St. James's district of Westminster, London, that connects Northumberland Avenue and Whitehall together.
It might not be much of a big area that visitors could go to and check as some people expect, but it is a street that is best known as the location of the rear entrance to the original headquarters of the Metropolitan Police Service of London, giving it the name "Scotland Yard".
Going deeper into the history of this street and why it might be one of the suggestions we are offering to those going to visit the city of London, we have to say that the name is believed to be derived from buildings that accommodated the diplomatic representatives of the Kingdom of Scotland and the Scottish kings who visited the English Royalty - but this is only according to a New York Times article that was published back in 1964.
The story of the Great Scotland Yard in London kept going further and in the 17th century, the street housed government buildings and residences for civil servants. There were some famous people who used to reside in this place as well, such as Inigo Jones and Christopher Wren as well as the poet John Milton from 1649 to 1651 during the commonwealth of England under Oliver Cromwell's rule.
Among the famous landmarks or places which are part of this residence area in Westminster, London, the Clarence public house is located, which is named after the Duke of Clarence and which dates back from 1896. This building was attached to the corner of the Great Scotland Yard by an archway, this archway was removed in 1908 redevelopment of Great Scotland Yard and the end of the building was refaced with slightly different colored bricks. This is now the Clarence pub that is now located at the corner of Great Scotland Yard and the Whitehall.
London buses actually go through this place and street in the district of Westminster, so if you are on any of them, you will experience this place and get the chance to know more about those beautiful buildings and see them in real. If not and you want to walk in an old place and street that actually carries a history behind, then you could go there and walk through it all.
The Great Scotland Yard in Westminster is not far away from some important attractions in the same area in London that could be reached within a walking distance for those who could and who have time or else ride something that might only take one or two stations only. These places close to the Great Scotland Yard include Westminster Pier (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_JPvnRlHqM), Westminster Abbey (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62_ajRfe8CY), Big Ben (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_pETuPDFSM), Coca-Cola London Eye (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHtQq7wQTQc) and this will of course include enjoying a walk by the river in the beautiful city of fog.
Are you still asking about the places and attractions of London that you should be visiting? London is filled with lots of different stories and every single one of them is different, these stories are about the places that one could visit and go to. We have been to some of these places, but put in your mind that we are trying to please all the different tastes; those who are in need for some fun places and those who want to know more about the history of the city and the historical places that are found in it.
We have been to the National Theatre and we recommend you attend something there (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5DVMjBvS2A), we have been to the Camden Town Market and saw this historical place and got to see the products they offer there (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaNeL3GUZz8), we also visited the Houses of Parliament (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K95ObyelQUE), the Royal Court of Justice (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byHd6WI_Dk4) and we also went to Churchill War Rooms (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf8ZNlP_J5E).
Some tourists and visitors might be focusing their attention on the main attractions in the city and thus they might not even think about the other places in the city which could be also informative and historical. This is all apart from the fun places which one could visit in London that include places like the M&M's World Shop (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPogfIu-63U) or else something like Shrek's Adventure Shop (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJSNwScYmP4), which we have also been to in order to bring you some ideas about where you could go to.
Where have you been to in London before? Share your experience in this beautiful and historical city with us and let us know some suggestions which we might have not yet thought about. Have a walk in this beautiful street - Great Scotland Yard - and enjoy the stories about it.
