A lot of you have suggested that we should try to press graphite with the hydraulic press to see if you can make diamonds from pure carbon. From what we have learned in school diamonds are formed of fine crystaline carbon which forms under emense preassure under the earths mantle. Diamonds are the hardest material known (which makes it impossible to scratch) but it's also very brittle and can easily chip if the right angle and force is applied. Graphite is pure carbon and it's what we use in our pencils. Now the question remans; Can you make diamonds from carbon?
