Abbas Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST tumors) can involve any part of the gastrointestinal tract, including the foregut, midgut, and hindgut. Gastric GIST can present incidentally or with symptoms of ulceration and bleeding. Incidentally, GIST are encountered during endoscopic examinations or on imaging studies of the abdomen. GIST lesions grow with time and can metastasize systemically and lead to progression of disease and death. The majority of lesions are treated with open or laparoscopic resection. With the recent progress in therapeutic endoscopy, some GIST lesions can be managed endoscopically. However, there is a paucity of data and reports on the endoscopic management of these lesions. In this video, Dr Maher A. Abbas and his team describe the endoscopic full-thickness excision of a gastric GIST discovered incidentally at the time of diagnostic endoscopy for anemia.
