The French Revolution took place in the west at this time. Napoleon Bonaparte began to lead France. He sought to unite Europe together, as a result of which Prussia was conquered by him, and the Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist at that time. Prussia continued to exist as a dependent state of France, and also lost the territories of the Kingdom of Poland. Napoleon wanted to enter into an alliance with Russia, but she, in turn, refused. In 1812 Napoleon attacked the Russian Empire. In Napoleon's ranks there were a large number of mercenaries, the main nation of whom were Germans. Russia expelled the invaders from the country and began to liberate Europe from French occupation. As a result of the Napoleonic Wars, Germany lost central Poland. In 1870, the Emperor of Spain dies. France declares war for the sake of inheritance, the Franco-Prussian War begins, as a result of which Prussia unites into the German Empire and wins France.
