| Video Discription | Fort Rock Cave, Oregon. The air quality is terrible from wildfire smoke but I was able to use the drone to get a close-up look of an archaeological site that otherwise would not have been able to see. Public access is restricted. The cave is on state property surrounded by private property. My understanding is that tours can be arranged through the Oregon State Park System. They have been extensively looted before and during excavations. I was able to get on a public dirt road on BLM land that allowed me to fly the Phantom 3 Standard drone for a close-up look. The layers from prior excavations on the floor of the cave are visible. The most recent was 2017. Fort Rock Cave is the second oldest documented site of human habitation in Oregon. Excavations have unearthed sandals that have been carbon dated to as old as about 11,000 BC. Enjoy the video! |
