Video Discription |
When the Feral Predator was first shown in the trailers for Prey , one of the most distinguishing features was his unique Biomask; which features some sort of animal skull attached to it, and exposes the Predators mandibles.
But also noticeable was its distinct lack of eye holes.
Your traditional mask has lenses for the Predator to see out of, but in the case of the Feral Predator in Prey, no such lenses exist.
We know from trailer-footage that the Predator isn’t blind, as we get a shot through his heat-vision;
which, before that footage was released, this video was going to be asking if the Feral Predator is blind. But then, I began to wonder if not that, then why does it have no eye-holes?
It wouldn’t have been the first time we’d have seen a blind Predator, or at least partially blind, as the Wolf Predator in AVP Requiem was shown to be blind in one eye; the result of acid-scarring we can see on one side of his face.
Also, in the videogame Predator Concrete Jungle, the Scarface Predator is shot through the eye with a revolver after a hunt-gone-bad.
This also wouldn’t be the first Biomask design we see with no eyes, as the Serpent Hunter Predator from the videogame Aliens Vs Predator from 2010 featured a Xenomorph inspired mask design. Just like a Xenomorph, the Serpent Hunters mask had no visible eyes, and it is thought that this predator would deprive his own sense of sight in order to sharpen his other senses, allowing him to better think like a Xenomorph.
Is it possible he in fact could be blind only without his mask?
Maybe, as the shot of his unmasked face in one of the trailers, while dark and hard to make out much detail, does seem to show his eyes may have that kinda cracked-looking scar-tissue around it much like the aforementioned Wolf and ScarFace Predators.
Or this could just be the way the screenshot’s lit, or it could be just an element of his design.
If he is, then maybe the biomask grants him vision he normally wouldn’t have, but through some advanced Predator technology, could it attach to his brain somehow and give him sight while wearing it?
Or if this isn’t the case and Feral isn’t blind, then perhaps inside the biomask it could feature some sort of inner-display from a camera-feed from outside the mask, much like a reversing camera on a car, or a vehicle with otherwise poor visibility like a military tank.
This would be an interesting concept, and explain how he can see out of the mask without a physical viewing window.
Or could it be the simplest idea, and he can just see through cracks in the bone?
It definitely looks like there is some sort of Biomask under the skull, as we can see at the top of the mask, that there is in fact a metal part to it that the skull appears to be attached onto, kinda like the lower jaw on the Berserkers mask, but covering much more of it.
Also with the movie taking place several Hundred years before any of the other Predator movies including the first, will the Feral Predator have access to other vision modes, or will he be limited to infra-red only like the Jungle Hunter was? The otherwise first canonically seen Predator.
The earliest time-period we’ve seen a Predator in on-film was the flashback scene in Alien vs Predator from 2004, where we see several Yautjas being worshipped by the Humans, and then fighting a horde of Xenomorphs atop the same pyramid.
But in that scene we don’t get a first person view from their perspective, but it is likely that they have access to at least Alien Vision as well as they can clearly see the Xenomorphs.
Also, in the extended cut of the film there is a scene at the whaling station in 1904 where we do get a first person view from the Predators perspective, but this is just IR and Alien vision, and this also takes place over 200 years after Prey, which takes place in the early 1700’s.
So if the Feral Predators not hunting Aliens, then would he have access to anything else but heat vision?
Why do you think the Feral Predators mask doesn’t have eye holes, do you think he has some sort of an internal display, or do you think he might be blind, or do you think it just won’t be brought up and they just designed it like that to look cool?
Let me know your thoughts down below.
Also, as of the time of this video being made, the film is still a few days away for general audiences, and not everyone’s seen it yet, so if you are one of the few who have watched it yet, or if you’ve looked up spoilers online, please refrain from posting spoilers, as not everyone will know what happens yet.
Thanks so much for all the recent support, the channels been doing really well lately, so I just wanted to say thanks for that.
