| Video Discription | My teammate Natalie Vie won the Duel in the Desert Women's Epee tournament and was given the opportunity to fence in the Exhibition match. In the Duel in the Desert Exhibition Match, competitors fence the champion from the year before. They fence 5 bouts of 5 points, and the one who achieves 3 of 5 bouts is the winner. In the end, the winner receives a money prize from $500 to $1000 worth of poker chips! In this bout, Natalie had to fence Erica Korb and it was a gut-wrenching match! This is the final bout where they are at 2 wins to 2 wins. By the end, the bout ran out of time and they had to go into priority as it was 4 to 4 in points. In the end, you can see who was the victor! CONGRATULATIONS NATALIE! You EARNED IT!!!! (For those of you who don't know what PRIORITY BOUTS are): If competitors runs out of the allotted 3min time in a bout (either to 5, or 15, points) and are tied in their score, they must go into a sort of "sudden-death match." Here the director flips a coin, deciding who gets head & tails, and the winner of the flip gets priority. The competitors fence for 1 extra minute and it's one point decides it all (no doubles). In PRIORITY, if the 1min runs out and no one has made a point, the person who won the coin flip is awarded the winning touch. So if you're on the other end, you don't want to let the time run out! |
