The new F8 Spider, a top-down version of the F8 Tributo, now makes 710 advertised horsepower. The car is clearly evolved from the 488, which itself is clearly evolved from the 458. The power has gone up, as has the cost of entry. But frankly, what wasn't broke didn't need fixing, and the F8 Spider will likely be the gold standard of mid-engined open top motoring for the next several years. CORRECTION: I incorrectly describe the F8's gearbox as being supplied by Graziano, which is incorrect. Ferrari's gearbox supplier for the F8 Trubuto/Spider is Getrag/Magna. Graziano's 7DCT has not been used since the 458/California. Ferrari of North America provided the vehicle, insurance and a tank of gas for this review.
