| Video Discription | According to cosmetic eyelid specialist Dr. Prasad, it is certainly possible to perform surgery on only one eye in order to address symmetry. In the case of this young lady, she exhibits a hooded a right upper eyelid and her left upper eyelid has a higher crease than the other, as well as an extra fold of skin, which is possibly due to a weak connection between the eyelid skin and the levator muscle (the muscle responsible for raising the eyelid.) In terms of lacrimal gland ptosis, Dr. Prasad deems, based on the young lady’s submitted photos, that she doesn’t have any significant lacrimal gland prolapse. The lacrimal gland is located along the lateral or outermost portion of the eyelid, in an area called the lacrimal fossa. Sometimes, this gland will descend or prolapse, creating a noticeable fullness on the outer part of the eyelid which, in this case, this young lady does not seem to have much of. While eyelid surgery can be performed on one eye only, Dr. Prasad recommends that she also look into having bilateral upper eyelid surgery, in order to ensure that optimum symmetry is achieved. While her right upper eyelid does have some hooding, her left upper eyelid is not hooded, but does have some extra skin folds that also contribute to her asymmetry.
