| Video Discription | At MIT, astronomer Julien de Wit, PhD, in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences is studying exoplanets to gain insights into climate science to better understand Earth’s atmosphere and atmospheres of different worlds. By studying other worlds, we can improve our climate models and better prepare for the future of our planet. An exoplanet is a planet that orbits a star outside of our solar system. These planets are also known as extrasolar planets. Because they are located so far away from us, they are difficult to detect and study. However, advancements in technology and observational techniques have allowed astronomers to detect thousands of exoplanets to date. Studying exoplanets can help us better understand the formation and evolution of planetary systems, and potentially reveal the existence of habitable worlds beyond our own solar system. Among the world's largest science centers, the Museum of Science engages millions of people each year to the wonders of science and technology through interactive exhibitions, digital programs, giant screen productions, and preK – 8 EiE® STEM curricula through the William and Charlotte Bloomberg Science Education Center.
