Do you need to ace the GED Language Arts section, but need to brush up on your grammar? Then this video's for you.
The basics:
A noun can be a person, a place or a thing is a person, place, thing, or an idea.
A proper noun names a specific person, place, thing, or idea.
On the other hand, a common noun names a non-specific person, place, thing, or idea.
Tip: You can tell proper and common nouns apart because, with proper nouns, the first letter will (almost) always be capitalized. With common nouns, the first letter will (almost) never be capitalized unless it’s the first word in a sentence, or it’s part of the title.
You can think of ****ouns as “substitute” nouns because ****ouns are words that substitute for nouns. And whenever a ****oun replaces a noun, we call the noun that was replaced the antecedent
Subject ****oun: I, you, he, she, they
Object ****oun: Me, you, him, her, them
Possessive ****ouns: My, mine; your, yours, his, her, hers, their or theirs
if the antecedent is singular, the ****oun must also be singular, and if the antecedent is plural the ****oun must also be plural.
A verb is a word that describes an action, occurrence, or state of being. On the tests, you’ll need to know about both regular verbs and irregular verbs.
