| Video Discription | Title: Engendering Genuine Presence and Empathic Practice Among Graduate Student Practitioners in Virtual Classrooms Presenter: Sheila Deyette, PhD, APRN, PMHCNS-BC Date: 9/14/21 Brief Description: This experiential workshop will provide participants a brief description of what is meant by the phrase "holding a phenomenological view of person." Participants will learn how to use simple phenomenologically based phrases paired with core therapeutic skills to improve patient practitioner encounters. A brief role-play activity invites participants to experience what it is like to hold a phenomenological view of person and what it is like to teach the skill to student-practitioners in virtual environments. The purposes of this workshop are 1) to teach participants how to engender empathic presence among telehealth-weary graduate students; 2) to enrich the provider/patient relationship, and 3) most importantly, to improve our patients' lived experience of feeling cared for and understood.
