The Global Electronics Council is launching a new EPEAT product category for Health and Wellness Wearable Electronic Devices, including fitness trackers, smartwatches, and the diverse wearables used to remotely monitor patient and employee health.
In this webinar recording, we introduce the new EPEAT category and draft criteria, which cover chemical substances in the product, design for reuse and recycling, responsible end-of-life management, and data privacy. Out draft criteria were based in part on the findings of our State of Sustainability Research for Health and Wellness Wearable Electronic Devices.
It helped to kick off a 60-day public comment period on the draft criteria that begin on 12 January 2022. This webinar also explained the process for submitting public comments.

About Global Electronics Council (GEC)
The Global Electronics Council is a mission-driven nonprofit that leverages the power of purchasers to create a world where only sustainable technology is bought and sold. GEC manages the EPEAT eco-label, a free resource for procurement professionals to identify and select more sustainable products. In addition, the EPEAT ecolabel is a resource for manufacturers to demonstrate that their products conform to the highest sustainability standards. Since its launch in 2006, procurement professionals have reported purchases of 1.5 billion EPEAT products, generating cost savings of $13.1 USD and a reduction of 200 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Global Electronics Council (GEC) manages the EPEAT ecolabel. GEC has met the requirements of ISO 14024, which is necessary for managing a Type 1 ecolabel. GEC sets the policies for the EPEAT ecolabel.
