Join us: https://bit.ly/3Rz1uCH Meira Paibis, a collective of Meitei women, staged a protest and blocked the road at Kumbi in Manipur’s Bishnupur District on April 30. This was after the 2nd Mahar Regiment of the Indian Army arrested ten members of the village defence force on Monday evening. Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning, Meira Paibis in the hundreds gathered near the Moirang police station and blocked the road. Visuals captured on the ground also show a vehicle being placed on the road to block the army convoy. Later, a confrontation broke out between the protestors and the Indian Army officials which went on for hours. The army officials also resorted to firing blanks in order to disperse the crowd however, all their attempts fell through. As per reports, the arrested members of the village defence group were later released after mounting pressure from the Meira Paibis. While on one hand, the protestors claim that those arrested were part of the village defence force, there are also reports that they were cadres of the People's Liberation Army.
