The Eiffel Tower and Spain’s Sagrada Familia were among the famous buildings to go dark for one hour, in order to raise awareness about the climate crisis and rapid biodiversity loss. “I think it is very useful for people to become aware that we are spending a lot of energy, especially with an emblem like the Sagrada Familia,” said one Barcelona resident who came out to see the lights at the famous church go dark. The Colosseum in Rome and Greece’s Acropolis were among the other landmarks to turn off their lights, along with the Sydney Opera House and the Tokyo Tower.
