When you've got a dual monitor setup, and turn on your monitors for the first time, you might find that you get a duplicated display - so you've got exactly the same information displaying on each display on your Windows 10 PC. Or your monitors might even be duplicated, but you didn't know you could have two separate screens to work on from one PC. There may be many reasons. With your two monitors showing different things - i.e. different monitors, which is known as an extended display, this gives you a lot more screen space to do what you want to do. It can help you boost your productivity with dual monitors. It can be particularly useful if you're doing very specific tasks. We'll now look at how to extend the display and make two monitors show different things - simply follow these steps πππ 1οΈβ£ Make sure that your computer / PC and monitors / external displays are hooked up and powered on. 2οΈβ£ Once your duplicated displays are on, go to and click on the magnifying glass; in the search box type - 'extend'. 3οΈβ£ Select the 'duplicate or extend it to a connected display' option, as shown, by left clicking on your mouse. 4οΈβ£ The DISPLAY SETTINGS page opens - note that a duplicated monitor set up is signified by a 1 and 2 next to each other with a line in between i.e. 1|2. 5οΈβ£ To change the display so you've got two separate displays, go down to 'MULTIPLE DISPLAYS' and underneath, from the drop down box, select 'EXTEND THESE DISPLAYS'. 6οΈβ£ A 'keep these display settings? banner will appear on screen, asking you if you want to keep the changes or revert. 7οΈβ£ Choose to keep the changes provided you're happy with your choice. Note that if you don't make a choice within 15 seconds, the settings will revert back to your current settings. 8οΈβ£ If you have chosen to keep the extended monitor setup, you will now have two displays with entirely different screens! You should be able to easily move your mouse and apps between the two screens - mastering the display settings for multiple monitors! β Solving common issues with multiple monitors πππ Now if you've set up your monitors to show different things, via a dual monitor setup, but are now having issues moving your mouse, apps etc. between screens, this is quite a common problem.
