| Video Discription | Microtia is a congenital condition that can affect one or both ears. Microtia occurs in different grades. This usually develops during the first trimester. This is a birth deformity where the pinna is underdeveloped and this is a type of birth defect. So, this condition affects the outer ear appearance but the inner ear is not affected. Microtia ear reconstruction surgery is considered as one of the most difficult surgeries of reconstructive plastic surgery. Rib cartilage is highly preferred for developing the ear. Microtia surgery is performed in two stages. In the first one, the entire framework of the ear is created using rib cartilage and it is then inserted into the right area on side of the head. In the second stage, the sulcus is created. The downtime associated with this is that the patient needs to be in the hospital for 3-4 days after the first stage and for about 4-5 days after the second stage.
