This educational video about California Domestic Partners and trusts was produced by California estate planning & elder law attorney Randall F. Kaiden. This video is about Domestic Partnership law in California. In order to qualify as a Registered Domestic Partner, either same-sex couples or different-sex couples where one partner is at least 62 years of age must:
1) Have a common residence
2) Agree to be responsible for each other's basic living expenses
3) Neither person can be married or be a member of another Registered Domestic Partnership
4) The two persons cannot be related to each other
5) Both persons must be at least 18 years old AND they must:
6) File for Domestic Partnership with the California Secretary of State where they agree to California court jurisdiction if the couple seeks a dissolution or nullity of the relationship. Please see the video for more details, especially how the law affects Probate Law and Estate Planning.
