It was popularized by Diogenes, the cynic philosopher who took it to its logical extremes by living in a large ceramic jar in a market place, rejecting all the conventional desires that the society today are working so hard for, such as wealth, reputation, possessions, and fame. For them, the purpose of life is to live in agreement with nature, that the basic necessities in life are all we need to live and be happy.
