| Video Discription | When an employer asks how you’d describe your ideal work environment, they want to assess if the work environment you describe aligns with their work environment. Be prepared by doing the following prior to your interview: 1) Thoroughly research the company. Analyze the job description to see what it reveals about the work environment. Know the company structure. Are they a large corporation, start-up, family-owned business, etc.? Try to talk to someone who works at the company. Ask people you know if they know people at the company. Don’t be afraid to find people on social networks either and nicely ask if they’d be willing to spend 15 minutes talking about their experience working at the company. Review the company’s social accounts, website, etc. and what others think about the company on rating sites like Glassdoor.com or company reviews on Indeed.com. Review the company’s mission and/or vision statement and find if the company indicates its company values. 2) Based on your research, identify at least 3 major things you feel define the work environment for the job, that also match what you value in a work environment. For example, three main themes you may find that align with your values might be “team-oriented culture,” A strong learning culture where employees are challenged and encouraged to constantly develop, and an environment in which open communication and transparency is valued. 3) Practice articulating your three primary points so that if asked this question, you’re clear, thorough, concise, confident, and organized in your response. 4) Avoid a negative tone in which you talk about what you don’t like in a work environment or don’t want.
