| Video Discription | Honoring its namesake, the stealthy M56 Scorpion approached its prey, ready to strike. Amidst the dense jungle, the agile and compact tank destroyer was accompanied by other tanks airdropped to support military operations in the Vietnamese countryside. With its compact frame and devastating 90-millimeter cannon, the Scorpion and its crew of four were a force to be reckoned with. Its lightweight construction allowed for swift maneuverability through the unforgiving terrain, making it a formidable adversary when traversing roads at almost 50 kilometers per hour. Soon, the roar of one Scorpion signaled the battle had begun. Seconds later, the paratroopers assaulted the enemy positions, and the lethal 90-millimeter guns tore apart North Vietnamese positions. The guns were so powerful the seven-ton tanks were lifted three feet in the middle of a cloud of smoke and dust. The enemy, bewildered and struggling to react due to the tremendous volume of fire, began to retreat. Unfortunately, their way out was abruptly cut off by the swift maneuvers of other Scorpions that had encircled the perimeter. It was time for the light tank to show its tactics: hit and move, constantly disorienting the enemy. |
