| Video Discription | Ukrainian border guards fought Russia in the opening salvo of the Battle for Kharkiv. Video captures the Ukrainians in their foxhole listening to the Russians approach. They call out and get only gunfire in reply, so they shoot back and toss grenades. At one point, the Ukrainians attempt to unleash a German MG3 on the Russians. But the weapon jams and Kyiv’s troops cannot get it working again. Outnumbered and outgunned, the Ukrainians are forced to withdraw to friendly lines. This is thought to be the first firefight in the ongoing Battle for Kharkiv. Putin launched the surprise assault on May 10, capturing towns close to the border. Analysts believe the attack is a diversion, and not aimed at taking Kharkiv.
