The strained cycloalkyne can do a cycloaddition reaction with an azide to form a triazole without the need for a copper catalyst (or other metal catalyst). This type of strain-promoted Click Chemistry (SPAAC) is an example of bio-orthogonal chemistry, and can be used for bioconjugation when the azide is attached to a biological molecule.
