Srinagar's bustling marketplaces remain deserted more than 60 days after the killing of Burhan Wani, a popular pro-independence fighter, by Indian forces. Since his death on July 8, at least 82 people have been killed and more than 11,000 wounded, including over 100 blinded by pellet injuries. Human rights groups say the Indian government is preventing them from telling the world about the real situation in the troubled area, and India has rejected a UN call for an independent assessment of the continuing violence.
